Birth of the Tomball Patriots and Liberty Belles
The Tomball Patriots Youth Football and Liberty Belles Drill Team programs are organized and conducted by the Tomball Patriots Booster Club and is sanctioned by the All American Youth Football / Drill Team (AAYFDT) Program. The Tomball Patriots Booster Club is one of 12 programs around the Tomball, Spring, Klein and Cypress areas.
The Patriot football teams are divided into four divisions - Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior with players ranging in age from 8~12. The season consists of 8 regular season games, 2 rounds of playoffs, the Super Bowl with the season starting the 1st week of August and ending the weekend before Thanksgiving.
The Liberty Belles drill team is divided into two divisions, Junior and Senior with girls ranging in age from 6~12. We teach dance, cheers, responsibility, discipline, teamwork and self-esteem cheering for the Tomball Patriot Football Teams with dance performances at half times. We are also a competitive drill team ending the season
with the Drill Team Competition.
The Tomball Patriots and Liberty Belles district corresponds with all kids south of FM 2920 in the Tomball Independent School District. Our players will someday represent the Tomball Cougars and Charms.
1999 It became apparent that a single youth football and drill team program could not accommodate the growth of Tomball. Registration numbers were high and kids were being turned away due to full rosters. So the Tomball RedCats Booster Club decided to build another club for the 2000 season and decided to call them the Tomball Patriots and Liberty Belles. The dividing line was set, where the Patriots lived South of FM 2920 and the RedCats North of FM 2920. They didn't know it, but that was the beginning of the Tomball Patriots and Liberty Belles.
2000 It was obvious that it was an expansion year because budgets and volunteer numbers were low. The first season all four Patriot teams did not win a single game. However, they exemplified teamwork and dedication and continued to play hard all year long. The Liberty Belles were only classified as a cheer squad and fielded 12 girls.
2001 The next year came upon us and recruiting picked up. We were able to find some excellent coaches, instructors, and talented kids. We were able to win a combined total of 5 out of 36 games played. It was very exciting to win that first game. The Liberty Belles came out sparkling and shining with 45 girls. They were, by far, the prettiest and proudest girls in the league.
2002 At the end of last year we broke away from being an extension of the RedCats organization and we were on our own. With dedicated board members, coaches, instructors, parents, and kids in place; we were committed to becoming one of the elite programs of the league. The football program improved with 8 wins out of 32 games played. As far as the drill team, the word was out and everyone wanted to become a Liberty Belle as they went to the AAYFDT Competition with 60 girls.
2003 The Patriots were a force to be reckoned with, as the season began with 6 wins and 1 loss through the first 2 weeks of the season. Not only did the Patriots make the playoffs for the 1st time, but all 4 teams made the playoffs with the junior team falling one game short of going to the Super Bowl. The Liberty Belles also had a great season finale with 64 girls going to the AAYFDT Competition. The girls perform and support the football teams throughout the season, this year many of the football players came to competition to show their support for the girls. With all the support from the parents, coaches and football players the audience knew the Patriots and Liberty Belles were in the house. 2004 With the success of 2003, the Patriots had high expectations this year but fell short of the seasons goals with any of teams advancing to the playoffs. The Liberty Belles had a great season finale with 66 girls going to the AAYFDT Competition. 2005 The Liberty Belles had a very successful year. They showed off their Sparkle and Shine all year through. They really made us proud throughout the whole season and were just amazing at the competition. The Patriots had a successful season. Win or lose they all learned about team work, responsibility, hard work ethic and great fundamentals of football that will carry them over into junior high as well as high school football. Seeing the excitement of all the boys and girls on the field, is truly what youth sports are about! |
